I remember so many things I learned during my training in the Military Academy. One thing they taught was mark time (we used to call it Taaley Taaley). As per Wikipedia, “the term can also be used to refer to doing a minor job or task while waiting for an opportunity to arise, thus the casual usage in slang as describing motion without progress – not getting anywhere.” Web Dictionary says, “to do something which is not very interesting while you are waiting to start doing something more important.” Loosely defined, you hold your position on the ground without making any move. And that’s where I think I find myself at various points in life. May be few others also find themselves in the same position.
One may wakes up one day and realize being still is in the same position where he she was a few years before. It can be with your career, relationship, whatever, but mark time is a common thing in the lives of most people. While some moments of mark time are bound to happen, too much of it can be destructive to anyone’s personal well being. It doesn’t mean that unless you are at the North Face of Chhogho Ri, you’ve missed out on something big, but what it does mean is that you always have to challenge yourself and take a start to be there.
How do you measure your success? No matter how you define your own personal success, Taaley Taaley is anti progression. It is like doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results, yet so many of us do this every day expecting different outcomes.
Have you ever found yourself doing Taaley Taaley in life? Tell the truth to yourself.
You don’t spare even a single chance of hitting me:) hahahahaha
Thank you for this post which I enjoyed reading and some past memories were bought back.
“To do something which is not very interesting while you are waiting to start doing something more important.” This reminded of a very dear friend who is a blessing in my life
May be the mark time is going to an end. It is beginning of a new dawn, you never know.
May be the the reason of Taaley Taaley is lack of interest, passion or direction. Or someone has stuck somewhere is life which is out of control.
True. We all seem to be marking time at one point in time in life.
